Well, that's, to say the least, a positive spin on it :) But I don't think there is one time where I would ask, please make my life suck for a day so that I can be happy when it doesn't suck anymore. I don't want any days to suck :)
I dont think anyone really appreciates joy and gratitide to its fullest without the sucky days to show the contrast. Just human nature. We expect life to be perfect and it isnt. when we accept that fact it becomes less dramatic.
It reminds me of the argument that we don't know what it felt like to live thousands of years ago, therefore inventions haven't really made us happy because happiness is all relative. But really we're just blissfully unaware of how hard things can be. Certain levels of bad that existed thousands of years ago probably don't even make it into our vocabulary. (You know, like how hunter gatherers would have to risk their lives each day to get dinner). It would not comfort me to know what being a hunter gatherer would really feel like -- it would just make me more paranoid :)
