i believe it is unfair for golds.

thomlane

A big part of my activity is as Tournament Director. I would like to be able to start tournaments without the 12 player limit and I wish, when I set a limit in rank, it would be enforced at the time the tourney kicks off. I'd like to see a more complete chart so I could check these things out, as well as vacation time and so forth.

Umm, golds are getting exactly what they had before plus new features. I think you didn't read the thread to the end--can't blame you! It's loooong. :)

Abarai

of course i read it. It s just about the tactics trainer that they maybe wont get unlimited access. Unfair!

Regarding the proposed Tactics Trainer restrictions:

you also have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Gold members also have a guarantee that the services they subscribed (and payed) for will last the duration of their subscription.

A guarentee is a guarentee..

Even though I'm not affected here, I have to agree. There's a cell phone plan that was proposed by a company here in canada that was ridiculous for some reason (in the end, the cell phone company was paying for these people account). It was removed quickly, but they cannot by law cancel these contracts, so they have to honor them, even though it makes no sense to do so. Payment for a said service is a contract... now, these cell phone contracts are sold on EBay!

Now, to put things in perspective, even though unlimited tactics trainer was one of the things that lured me in, I'm really not concerned about the change personally (I almost don't use it). I'm only playing the devil advocate, so the trouble of making an exception for paying gold members until the end of the agreement may avoid unnecessary troubles for you guys... (trying to help, really - I officially resign to my gold's unlimited tactics and will apply to the new plan!)

Harry07> It s just about the tactics trainer that they maybe wont get unlimited access. Unfair!

1) You're platinum, so you'll continue to get unlimited tactics. 2) Erik said existing gold members would also likely continue to get unlimited tactics until renewal, at which point they'll get to decide whether or not it's a fair deal and resubscribe or not.

True, he did say that (and did I feel a raised eyebrow and a sigh?)

Well, me, I will stay here that's for sure. The Internet wouldn't make sense without chess.com! Me, exagerating? Well, maybe a little, but if I say that probably 90% of my bandwidth is chess.com, would that be convicing?

Well, looks like I will be a diamond member when the changes take place. The chess mentor subscription is too much (But i pay it anyways). I was thinking about canceling it because of the price, but the diamond membership will be worth it.

alexandrumag

The new membership system sounds great to me, but I have a question. I have really wanted to get a platinum membership lately but I just couldn't get myself to make the final step. In the past week, I have been away and took the last days of my vacation. Seeing that I will also be away for New Year's, I wanted to get a platinum membership now, to be able to benefit from the extra vacation days, also. However, considering the new system, it would be ideal for me to wait and get the new diamond when it comes out. But if the new system is not implemented soon enough that might mean timing out in a lot of games, because of lack of vacation time and I don't want that to happen. What would the solution be in my case?

Alex, the new memberships are being rolled out in two? days, i wouldnt worry, you will get your vacation days before New Years.

alexandrumag

Actually, although Erik initially announced the 15th of December as a possible date, he said afterwards in this thread that there is a possibility that the new system will not be implemented even until the 1st of January.

I am not quite understand now, the membership page state that the  diamond is 50 hours (or 15% discount) mentor, it is lifetime ? it seems not.

jootoo> I am not quite understand now

The cut-over hasn't happened yet. Erik said if you sign-up for lifetime diamond membership before the cut-over (some day between Dec-15 & Jan-1), you will get unlimited chess mentor after the cut-over. In the meantime, you get 50 or so hours. :)

gumpty
thats a very point! maybe chess.com should have a sliding scale on lifetime memberships depending on age? nice post!
jootoo

it is good, but how to verify the age ?

so basically gold memberships like mine get less for the same amount of money or is that price dropping to reflect the change.  The reason I joined a membership at all was for the tactics trainer and leagues.  Now one of those will be more limited?  Are you talking limiting gold members to say 30 trainers a day?  My typical amount or less or more?

gumpty
try reading the whole thread. erik is limiting it to 200 per week, which is less than 5% of gold members. Also for your membership ,you will be GAINING more in the next few weeks than was there when you bouht your membership, so you actually gain not lose :-)

Also, erik has said:

erik wrote:

we'll likely allow existing gold members to keep their unlimited tactics until the next renewal. :|

So it's likely you'll have nothing to worry about.

Gold is getting limited to 200/week so you're right on pace to have just enough to work with if you opt not to pick one of the newer platinum/diamond options.
