I agreed with your ideas here.

One thing I would like to suggest:
Remove The Off Topic forum threads from inclusion in the Forum dropdown menu "Hot Topics" and "New Unread Messages" menu items...or allow users a setting/option to do this themselves. This would go a long way towards making troll posts a thing of the past, by making Off Topic posts a lot less visible.
@BTicker: I don't see why you get so worked up about such nonsense.

Anyone else want to necro a 7 week old thread? I posted this right after Erik posted his new policies, while the thread was locked for some reason.
The advantages are obvious. The bigger question would be why anyone would be against users having a setting to filter out the Off Topic forum...
It's not a matter of being worked up, it's a matter of Erik asking for feedback at that time...which, again was 7 weeks ago. So, I should ask everyone else the same question: this thread was gone until you bumped it.

I am sorry btickler. Is my grammar perfectly correct. I love sushine.
I don't know about your grammar, but your punctuation and spelling could obviously use work, since you made 3 mistakes in less than one line of text.

The advantages are so obvious that they moved nobody to action. Some "obvious".
What are the advantages anyway? I see none.

Actually this suggestion was one of the more popular on the feedback thread.
I'm not surprised you see none, you're special like that.

Who are you to make the distinctions between weed and flower for the entire community?
We are back to the main point, why do you even care? Do you feel personally offended or harmed at a few 'weeds' in a chess forum? Your hypersensitivity is troubling. Why the "crusade", Daddy-O?
You claim to be an educated middle aged professional in downtown San Francisco. Why don't you step out and go to a cafe or something instead of fretting over what goes on here.

If you read the suggestion, it actually is pretty clear that it does not allow me to make distinctions for others, it allows each user to decide for themselves whether to "deprecate" Off Topic posts...
As for compiling a dossiere of information about me from months and months of threads...let's just add that to your obsessive trolling, your inability to let things go (displayed so perfectly in this thread you couldn't stop yourself from interjecting in...who is the sensitive one, again?), and your startling admission in the other thread yesterday that you carry unregistered, concealed firearms...
You might want to seek help.
Meanwhile, I dare you to prove that you are stable enough that you can actually walk away from this thread without responding...it's not a big public thread, or of any importance, since the topic died 7 weeks ago...should be sooo easy...

Post number two "bumped" the thread, not me. Go back and check.
You are so quick to hurl accusations without first getting your facts straight.
You think you are always correct. Nobody is correct all the time. You, however, seem to distinguish yourself by being never correct.

Inaccurate. That's why you are always think you are right...you don't see things clearly.
More than 24 hours passed before your bump and the thread was well buried. Clearly you have tracking on for me. I don't for you, though (or anyone else). You still need to ask yourself why you even needed to comment initially, and why you are collecting details about me. It belies your premise, that I care too much about this stuff, and makes the real truth clear...it's you.
You couldn't even make it 15 minutes without responding. Every time I shut you down in whatever thread it may be (after you try to make things personal from some general discussion), you feel compelled to come back and try some new angle to get back in the game. That's the bottom line. Time to hold up a mirror.
"by being never correct."
That should be "by never being correct." Why do you walk into things like that so easily? You say I'm never correct and then make an obvious error that allows me to make a fool out of you and be correct, disproving your point. Self sabotage? I can't figure it out...it's like you're a glutton for punishment. I'm actually starting to try and take it easier on you because I feel a little guilty about how you are getting pummeled...
Have fun here...think I'm done in this thread.
