i get these messages regularly. i understand it is a marketing tool. i understand the messages are automated to freeloaders.
so, i'd just like to point out how this sucks-for some of us. i've been here for 10+ years and have had the "premium" account in the past.
i've had many topics about site issues where staff/mods have locked the topic and then will not say why. one mod threatened to ban me if i pressed him on why a topic was locked. i presented this to erik and he didn't care!!
to be perfectly clear, the topics i started presented a mirror to staff and were taken well ~four years ago. then there was a noticeable drop off in communication. for any of you here five years or more, do you remember when a staff member would answer your question in a topic? now it is mods making excuses for staff.
i used to pay for this site. not because i used the analysis of games (look at my rating!) or anything that could make me a better player, but, only so that i could play in more tournaments. i was also impressed that staff all the way to the top was engaged.
that is gone, unfortunately.
so, if you want to get your mom and dad to pay for that membership, keep in mind it comes with conditions where questions will be answered in the order they are received. or, staff might not answer! you are on your own, unless you run amok of the dreaded bots that zap posts-and might mute you-based on a single word.
i know, you're laughing now. you wouldn't write any word where a post can mute you-except, it can! a guy was muted for writing h o m o sapien, without the spaces. when it was presented to staff how dumb this is, they did...
nothing.
basically, pay at your own risk.
