Vacation Adjudication in a Winning Position

And I would like to add this: isn't it more fun to start a fresh new game where you actually do have chances, than waste your time on a lost cause?

BTW, the winning player is not on vacation any longer and it is now clear that losing player is stalling because he did play a move yesterday in some of his other games(but not in this one).

the_villa, of course blunders of all sorts can happen, especially in games between sufficiently weak players. It may be completely normal and understandable for players with maybe a rating of about 1000 to play on their games mostly without resigning as long as they think it to be an interesting and open question if their opponent will be able to successfully mate them.

The higher the playing level, the more often you will find situations in which both players know that the remaining part of the game will be so clear to both and so uninteresting that they will not play on, and the losing player will resign.

At a level such as 2400, as in the example here in this thread, it is so extremely unusual to keep on playing as black in such a position in a correspondence chess game that I almost have no reasonable explanation for it.

The best reason I can think of is that black maybe would prefer the next round of the tournament to begin some months later, because he may be assuming to have more time for new chess games then than now.

You wish to finish high in a tournament because it is good for your chess reputation. Ruining your reputation while doing so or while trying to do so is bad for your reputation.

Imagine playing whatever game with some friends. If you keep misbehaving, they will stop playing with you, and they will no longer want to be your friends.

You know that we are not playing for money here on chess.com.

If you want to have a higher rating, I urgently recommend that you start focusing on improving your chess skills instead of getting sidetracked. Hoping for your opponents to blunder heavily will not make you a stronger chess player, and it will not increase your rating.

Please do not get off topic. Nobody here has ever claimed that one should resign an endgame R vs Q.

And in OTB tournaments, if you ever dare to try, you will know very quickly when you are making a fool of yourself by playing on in a position that is so hopeless that it should be resigned.

 Yes, such players are scorned and ridiculed above a certain level, and they should be. It often depends on the level of the players and just how hopeless the position is ofcourse.

For argument's sake, Tarkatower once said, "No one ever won a game by resigning." I think his point was that even when all hope seems lost, a mistake might just show up. Who knows? We are human, after all.
