I think everyone on chess.com has atleast once faced toxicity, I have faced racism in chat many times.
Verbal abuse during blitz games is out of control on chess.com
should check his profile again....
Oh! he is banned
It took a full year and mass reporting to get a trashtalker banned before lol
I remember it because I got paired with the person
lol
I suppose I made this thread not for the sake of complaining but just to raise awareness about what is going on with all the verbal abuse.
If enough people report it, maybe we can stop this.
I might choose to ignore chat again, or maybe I'll just keep reporting.
Lead by example by being courteous and respectful in your own interactions. A simple "good game" or "well played" can go a long way in promoting a positive environment.
Just tell them "You are being a bit rude, my friend." and if that does not calm them... either deactivate chat or just quit playing with that particular opponent.
You can't force them to behave. Most times they are just children.
Lichess might be kinder in it's player base. But it isn't as popular
I have gotten one insult and it was insulting my username on lichess lol
Other than being called the occasional cheater of course

Fair
I think you may be exaggerating somewhat. Yes, it happens. But not to the extent that you suggest, at least not in my experience and I've played over 100,000 games here. If someone offers me an Accept/Decline chat offer in the heat of a 3-min. Blitz game I just ignore it, because there is no time for talking at Blitz - complete focus is requited. Also I use Zen Mode so I wouldn't see it anyway even if they spoke. But chess.com really cracked down on this sort of thing about 5 years ago, and ever since there's been far less verbal abuse. Maybe one out of twenty games someone makes a comment, and half the time it's just "Gg". I suggest just playing your own game and not worrying about others....sticks and stones, man, sticks and stones.
I typically stay in focus mode so I don't even see chat requests until after the game is over. One of my recent opponents stopped at a critical moment for like a minute and a half in a 5/5 game, I was a little confused. Saw afterwards they wanted to chat, and the account was banned later? No idea what was going on there.
I wish people would stick around and chat politely afterwards--I always give a GG, see if people want to chat, compliment what they did well, but I get a response in maybe 1 in 10 games? And something substantial in like 1 in 20-30 games?
Why would you want to chat with a stranger during a live chess game, anyway? Unless they're already on your friend list, just keep the chat disabled.
Otherwise, use the forums for socializing.
Simple: They wasted a few seconds to type the message: now you have a great chance to flag them
