Vote chess & Resignation

Just a thought I just came up with that's pretty logical. When a players votes to resign in a match he thinks he's lost in the match. So why do players who have voted for resignation still going to vote the next rounds?

I suggest that when a players has voted for resignation in vote chess this vote is permanent and the player should automatically vote for resignation every round. When a game's lost and it get's shoved in your face every day because some persistent people don't wanna quit is annoying.

Hope this makes sense to people here, I'd love to get some feedback on this idea.

I am in complete agreement. I usually withdraw once I have voted for resignation. I am then free when the lunatics take over the asylum: "Yes but...we have a knight left and if he puts his King in the corner, we might get a smothered mate" or "I NEVER resign... there is always a chance"... yeah, right!

They could just voluntarily leave the game if it bothers them that much.  I don't see why they should be automatically kept from participating, even for a resignation, just because a particular vote did not go the way they wanted.

Mijn reactie:

Zucht...

How do you withdraw from a game, I never found that button beforeFoot in mouth
Ray_Brooks

"leave game" button.... it's kind of small, top right I think.

Dekker, misschien volgende keer in het Engels zodat iedereen je post snapt ;)

I got the leave game button, that works aswell. But vote chess is a team playing by popular vote. So if resigned why vote resign every single move? If all the resigners just 'leave' you only have the players left that don't care mutch about the game anyways. If a game is lost, no GM will give it away against a few amateurs.

As always, Mr. Brooks talks sense. If you have voted for resignation, you have forfeited your right to any further opinion in the game.

I'm not sure that's exactly what I meant, it's just how I deal with it.

What if I vote to resign and then the other team blunders? I realize this is unlikely in vote chess, but it's not beyond reason the other team could make a significant mistake.

Loomis,

some of the positions that are played out are absurd, one blunder wouldn't be enough! Laughing

Well the same goes for a normal match, if you resign but your opponent is still able to give the game away with major blunders.. That is the 'risk' in resigning. You expect your opponent will play out the match to a win.

Player1: I Resign

Player2: I would've moved Qc8

Player1: OMG what a blunder i retract my resignation and win!

Doesn't make sense.

If a team member votes to resign then it should be automatic that they can not participate any further in that game. When you quit your job - you don't get to hang out in the break room anymore. Resigning is serious stuff but some will vote for it right from the start because they think it's cute.

However - removing those who vote to resign would offset future votes with regards to resignation. As the resigners were removed there would be fewer votes to resign and the game would probably continue on to it's completion. Personally - I would like that - but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or if it's fair. Maybe a resigning vote could be registered as permanent - and when a large percentage of the original team had voted to resign that would end the game.

Ray, I know that some positions are absurd and would require more than one blunder. But the new rule would imply that *all* positions are this way. My remark was that in some games the opponent might blunder after I have voted for resign, I realize this isn't true for all games (probably very few as my original post indicated).

Decoy, sure, but there are differences between one on one games and vote chess games. It's possible to vote for resigning and still have the opponent make a blunder later. So, the same doesn't go for a normal match. In a normal match there are no moves after the resignation, which is why you get an absurdity. But in vote chess, there are still moves after some players vote for resignation. And there's no need to retract the earlier vote in order to vote for something else later.
