Firstly, I presume you mean a team match, not a tournament? If so, there is a few reasons for this - but the usual one is that you are a member of both teams - in which case you are ineligible to join on either side. But your rating may exclude you from the match, too - but in this case, there is a 'join' button, but when you press it, it will then give you a message "your rating is too low for this match".
