What do people think abou the welcome games? do they get played out, or lost due to time after one or two moves

http://blog.chess.com/Rickj/welcome-to-chesscom was my attempt to introduce people to the site, but can you do better? What are your ideas?

About 95% roughly dont bother to play past the 1st move or 2 against me, if they make a move at all. So i stopped doing it now. I dont know if that happens to everyone though....Cool

This was my experience, but a few more games got played out . I found that I only played to a finish a handful of games. I think that welcoming people is something i'll do on and off, as the large drop out rate is discouraging. How many of the people you welcomed have actually kept playing long term? for me, its only a few.

Since i did the blog, the site's changed, so i'll have to update it.

I have now a game in which my guest did not move at all.

I think the guests should get a message that if they dont want to play this game they can abort

i dont think there should be welcoming games if they're not rated

they never come back to the site after the first move, i guess most of them think i am a computer program and try bizzare moves and anti computer strategy. lol

In defence of greeter games, sure many don't come back or they time out .. but there are  alot of players still here and playing after their greeter games.

Not all newcomers abandon games and the site.

The why's and wherefores have been discussed at length in many threads on this site concerning the newcomer greeter games  and it will probably continue to be discussed to death, but as long as atleast some of the newcomers stay then thats a plus.

I think it would be nice to have welcome games not put a person into vacation if you run out of time...that way I can play more of them without time constraints.
