Well, I am pretty disappointed in some Chess.com players!

Hi all,

I joined chess.com yesterday. I coach kids and I wondered if this was a site I could recommend to them. I haven't played for a while but I am 2149 FIDE, so I know the moves.

Anyway, played a game and won and my opponent went into this long rambling argument that I was cheating using a computer. I shrug it off, then play a couple more games. I get 2 private messages below from another user [quoted abuse removed by mod]

So, are many players on Chess.com such bad losers? I can't honestly recommend this site to the kids I teach if this is the sort of nonsense that goes on. What do the mods do about it?

As I say, I am very new here (1 day only) so I would be grateful for views.

It`s always like that.

But you are probably getting your thread locked because you are not supposed to do "naming and shaming", so you are breaking a rule now.

chessbond001

for kids, chess.com already has another site . i guess it goes by the name chesskid.com that site is very quite good for kids, IHMO

David

I think this might be one of the reasons that chess.com also have a chesskids.com site, which I would expect to be policed a lot more strictly than this site is - I wouldn't recommend the main chess.com site for children for exactly this reason.

The default profile settings allow anyone to post on your wall, but you can change this to limit it to your friends only - not sure if this deals with incoming PMs as well, I've never had that problem. It doesn't stop people posting offensive language in chat unless you disable chat altogether first thing in every game. I only play mostly bullet games here (1/0) and I've had people post offenseive stuff when they lose as well as accuse me of cheating - the former makes me laugh, the latter confuses me enormously, because if someone's smart enough to use a cheat program in a 1/0 game, I'd expect them to be ranked way more highly then I am. I run into it maybe 1 opponent in 20?

Thanks Socialista,

I didn't know that. But I doubt it matters anyway, I will most likely leave and try ICC or suchlike. I can't be bothered with all this nonsense!

that or the mods will delete the names of those people from your original post. Definitely report it if it annoys you, but don't expect any action - although given the clear evidence on your own wall from the latter user, I would expect the admins to take some action. Doesn't stop the real life person from creating another free account and continuing on as before, though.

I coach chess to elementary school kids, and I use chesskid.com for them. I pay for 10 gold memberships and distribute those to whoever actually uses the site. I try to get them to be competitive about their tactics rating.

If you have coaching tips please post them, I have been coaching for a couple of years and am still looking for good ideas.

OK thanks for the heads up Caedrel.

I think I will take my leave then!

Take Care.

Hi. I'm rated FIDE 2012. It's generally fun to play here. Rare and sour losers are about one in a hundred. No big deal. You just 'disable chat' or block them altogether (I wouldn't continue for a couple more games against a proven sore loser).

Sore losers exist also away from the internet, more or less in that percentage. Kids will get to know them if they keep playing chess. If they don't, they will meet some sore losers in other walks of life... :-) just the way it is.

Mr_Tarkanian

Raymond, anywhere you go on the internet, you are bound to run into a few people that are classless, much like Solskytz said.

If you are searching for an internet chess site that has no sore losers, you might find that catching a bass in a paved parking lot is easier.

... and the OP account is now closed?

KenGeneQ

I know! Because you are actually rated extremely high in real life (well, extremely high to me), and you start off with a rating of 1200, when you play your games obviously a 2100 would beat a 1200 badly, they would think a new member like that could smash people, so they think that you cheated.

But I think it was most likely done on purpose, since they gave you messages full of swear words, like those trolls that just join chess.com to troll and target innocent people.

KenGeneQ

His account is closed! That was unfair

Mabye it was just a misunderstanding.

Well thats some pretty thin skin. Was this his first day on the internet?

Chess.com is pretty tame next to, say, Starcraft. If I even hinted at the stuff I was called there I would be banned from here.

My response was usually to type "umadbro?" over and over.

I once used a very good chess engine to play for me and i lost, the man at the other side was a GM 2500 (first name Jeremy if i remember) !! So you never know, that guy was a very nice on line friend. He smashed knightchess in less than 2 hours and draw with gnu as if it was nothing. I enjoyed very much this experience and of course i told him what i was doing, later I sent the files to him by email. We used the computer as a telephone not as a war field.

and very oddly -

2. WHEN YOU MINDED LESS PEOPLE PLAY CHESS , SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THAT WHAT WE GET IN A BULLSHIIIT SITE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I would block them and move on. I'm the king of blocking ppl.

Did he close it himself? Is that even possible, or is that something the admins would have done (either on his own request or as the reult of a complaint).

I think the stuff about it being the internet is pretty relevant - I haven't experienced any other chess sites, but unless their mods are spending a lot more time & energy on things, they'd have the same number of trolls and sore losers.

pujara123

somebody probobly reported him

goldendog

OP was self-closed.

sjeffh

He has a rating over 2100 FIDE and teaches chess but he hasn't played for a while??  Seems kind of odd to me.
