Stalemate is a position where you or your opponents king has legal no moves but is not in check and therefor ends in a draw. See the position for as an example

Just a side note to my example. If you were wondering why white had to move his king there and make it a "Stalemate" it is due to another technique called opposition with the kings. If you are not familiar with this term, I'd say it is a good thing to take a look at
