It depends who you're talking to.
If you are talking to a noob 1000 is impressive, if you are talking to a super-GM 2800 is impressive

What happens if a noob who is 1000 sees this
I'm impressed by people who work at the game, regardless of their rating.
Years ago I watched a USCF 1350 flawlessly defend a Philidor position and hold a draw against a USCF 1650. I was impressed.
As far as rating is concerned, I guess I consider USCF 2000 and greater to be impressive.
…seriously, points are pointless and I absolutely would HAVE WAY MORE LOVED this site were the games categorized like BEGINNING I II III INTERMEDIATE I II III ADVANCED I II III. The games would be way more enjoyable, less ridiculousness with watching the ratings fluctuate out of ridiculous control and JUST ENJOYING THE GAME OF CHESS, and that’s win OR lose, because if you’ve any bit gained by that loss, you win at least some, don’t you.. The stress factor for many here would be eliminated. ![]()
…it certainly would be the comfort zone for such a great site! 👍

Good question
There are masters, and there are normal players like me who will never hit that level. Although recently, I've hit 1600 rapid chess and I would like to know what people mean when they say, "That's one impressive rating".
