Exactly! I was going to ask the OP if he meant dead or alive. Morphy is my favorite dead player.
As for a living still active player, Fabiano Caruana. A few months ago, I would have said some one else, but Caruana showed a lot of class, heart, and poise in his recent loss to Carlsen in the World Championship.
