In almost every forum the higher level players always make remarks on how watching 1200 and below games make their eyes burn...

I am being sort of stereotypical, but I always come across players that are super annoying and condescending...

i remember playing someone by that username actually, though I cannot be completely sure...

Some are like that. A chess rating is more or less all they have.

He is on line playing right now using the computer to cheat

Please let any one you play online let them know send them a message he’s cheating right now telling the other person how much better he is

I agree with cottonsock (post #3),

I think that being "cocky" versus "humble" is more of a personality difference. Additionally, I imagine that there are close to the same number of "higher rated" cocky players as "lower rated" cocky players. Perhaps, "higher rated" cocky players are just more likely to voice their opinions in forums and such - or at the very least that "higher rated" players (cocky or not) are more likely to have their views considered. If someone is bragging online about how they are the best chess player there ever was, but has a rating sub-1000, (believe it or not, happens more than most think) they are not taken too seriously; this is simply because it is easy for someone better to basically say "yeah right" or outright refute their flawed variations or comments. This same idea would apply to "higher rated" cocky players, but there are simply fewer players better than them to refute what they say (compared to a lower rated player).

Maybe it is also possible that "cocky" players tend to be "higher rated", but this might just be due to winning more than losing and getting egotistical as a result. However, I still stand to my original thought that there are probably circa the same number of "cocky" players, "higher" or "lower" rated; it is just that lower rated players are either less outspoken, or taken seriously by the general public less often.

Even if you set aside the ethics behind being cocky, or the sportsmanship that chess should players should uphold ... being humble is still better. A humble person will suffer far less humility and embarrassment than someone who arrogantly believes they are "so" great. Respect your opponents, be humble, and you won't fall from the hubris that brings down people in Greek tradegy after another.

If you ever play against a person who goes by the screen name xyz just know that he cheats he plays on his iPad while simultaneously being on his computer asking what his next move should. Please let any one you play against know

You have only played 2 games here in total, neither of which were against the person you named.

It is against the site rules to accuse other members of cheating in the forums.

If you want to report someone, you are supposed to email support and they will check it out. You can also use the report button on every member's profile. Of course, they will probably take the fact that you have never played this person into account.

Why don't you try playing?

Yeah, well, in none of his 70+ years of being alive has Donald Trump ever live in Greece, apparently.

I think it has more to do with how much work they've put into the game and that chess skill, unlike many other skills, isn't apparent to a casual observer.

You know, like if someone hits a homerun, anyone can tell that takes skill, or if we hear a nice sounding piece of music, you can tell they've practiced, but a 1000 rated player giving analysis doesn't realize he's hitting the guitar against the wall and calling it music. The 2000 rated player doesn't realize the song he's playing sounds bad, hitting wrong notes with bad tempo etc... not until the GM points it out to them wink.png

And maybe we call that cocky... I guess it is. At the same time though, as Finegold would say, "the truth hurts!"

(but sure, if someone is being rude, they're just a regular jerk no matter how good they are at chess)

darkunorthodox88

do you realize the irony of recommending humility when your username is seto kaiba?

testaaaaa

this would be the perfect threat for Megas lol

[One last time - the forums isn't the place to discuss cheating or to accuse people. If you feel the need to accuse someone, do it through the proper channels.  I hope I'm being Crystal Clear.  -CrystalMoon]
