You are probably correct about the wifi being the cause of your problems.
Are you using one of the phone apps or the website?

the website, everything else on the site works just not the bots, or online play

If it's a school managed device they could be blocking things, causing the issue
I had the same problem. Home network, outside network, etc., not a WiFi problem, right after the new 4.1 release.
4.1.1 just came out, so I’m hoping they’ve addressed it.

If not, just wait for 4.1.1.1
after a few moves (like 1-5 moves). the bot just quits on me and i cant even resign either, this is a problem for me mostly because i cant play against other people on school wifi and its the only other thing i can do. im not sure why the bots are broken, it might be because school internet sucks or chess.com is bugged. i just wanted to report this as a problem( or 2 if you count me not being able to play regular chess games)
