Why are Chess Coaches So Expensive
Coaches are not mandatory to improve as well, it is a bit more difficult, but you can improve yourself plenty without a coach.
Umm..no. Not really. If someone has the talent they will have a coach at some point.
Besides professional competition, there are people with goals who cant do it without coaches.
You mistake coach with tutor. There are many tutors who call themselves coaches...but anybody can spot the difference.
Bu8t as I've said, in America, there is noone to play OTB chess with. Maybe you find this hard to believe because everyone is playing chess in the parks in your neighborhood. But that is not the case here. You literally will have to join a club and travel there ....
Start a club then. You may only get a few people and early on, may sit by yourself sometimes, but any decent size town should be able to support a small club at least
No one would join his club...

There are many people here rated over 2 000 not paying a coach. Yes those with most ambition will pay them, sure, I am just saying that many people playing chess as a hobby can do a lot on their own as well.

I think he's just trolling. Nobody goes to such train wreck lengths to defend such an obviously illogical offhand statement. Nobody posts about how depressed they are about chess and the community here, then changes their avatar to bright magenta with a baseball cap. It's too absurd to be unintentional.

People like that sadly exist...
But yet you don't want to address or prove anything I said as illogical? All that does is make you a hater conceding what I say. Hi hater.
A non-argument since I already did. Many people did
.
Another Non American acting like chess is so popular its played in parks like basketball and most people don't need to shell out cash to play OTB. sure bud.
Again...must be trolling. Nobody could live that close to New York and then say there's no chess to be found. The only thing more absurd would be if you said you were from St. Louis.
The rates for any other type of coach or instructor is about the same, more than that a lot of times...but unless you have specific questions it might be better to utilize the interwebs, youtube has some good instructors.

You are the one who mage outrageous claims, the burden of proof is yours.

Do you expect me to make a video. Travel to every park in the city looking for chessplayers? I've lived in Queens NYC for 25 years, been around all 5 boroughs, never saw a chess player except in the movies. Only empty chess tables. My logo on youtube if you look is literally the NYC Parks Department logo. I spent most of my days in the parks and in the street. Now you can call me a liar if you want, but I'm telling you the truth and you can take it or leave it. wow...
What I expect from people is to act rationally and not make ridiculous claims, from you... I don't expect anything sane.

What was insane about his claim?
Chess is such a underrated game. Poor chess. I hope chess gets more love.
underrated, underappreciated, insert adjective here >>> lol
But I still think the fact you need money to play, at least to plant the seeds for a potential increase in popularity at the start, make it hard to get into.
Of course we are still only referring to OTB, and not online which is a whole different thing and Thank goodness for the internet lol.
Yes, I think money may falter other people’s intentions on playing the game. I play dnd but not even to the full extent. Because of money. Rule books cost money. Sets cost money. Some sessions cost money. Apps cost money. Almost everything. Which is why it’s hard for me to get into the game or for others to.
money is a barrier separating people from playing something they are interested in. Chess boards cost money (obviously), but it may discourage them from playing.

interesting. never realized that about D&D.
That’s why I make my own bootleg versions of dnd. And sharing it with my friends. We still have fun. But it’d be nice to have miniatures or tokens to play with.

at least you can find people to play with, thats all you need.
It’s hard to even do that. Different schedules makes it difficult.
You ever visited NYC and have seen people playing chess? Or have you seen them playing handball and basketball lol. Its not like the movies man. And if you go to the spot in washington square park or wherever it is at the right time. You have to pay those people to play with them lol.
Well at least now you have admitted that there is chess being played in the parks "if you go at the right time" (which is generally how life works). I suppose the notion of bringing your own chess set and playing other people that also don't want to pay the hustlers has escaped you. I mean, it's a big barrier to entry...spend $20 (one time purchase, mind you), walk to a park "at the right time", set up a board...wow...it's just like a country club where you play tennis or golf and it costs hundreds of dollars in monthly dues.
