Why are rematches unrated?

Historically I would accept a lot of rematch challenges, but lately I’ve been noticing that these challenges are always for unrated games (I assume that’s always been the case and I’d just never noticed) what’s the reasoning behind this? I’ve stopped accepting rematch requests after noticing this as it feels a bit like a waste of time to play an unrated game.
I have noticed this recently too, but I don’t think it was always the case.

Rematches, on their own won't be unrated unless the original game was.

In my experience that's not the case. I play almost exclusively rated games, but every time someone challenges me to a rematch, it's for an unrated game. I've noticed that when I challenge someone to a rematch, it defaults to unrated also, but (if I recall correctly) there's option to change to rated.
