am i the only one to not know about tiled players?!?!?!

they're people who have titles, either granted by FIDE or another chess federation. They look like a red box with two or three letters in them, like [NM] kracker12345. They also get free Chess.com Diamond

what is a tiled player???

"Titled" players have an official chess title from an over-the-board organization. Grandmaster (GM) is the highest chess title one can achieve (other than World Champion if this counts, or the informal "super-GM" status of 2700+ rating).

Basically, a "titled player" is like a chess "professional" in ability.

Honestly, I’m glad pfren is gone.

I'm not. He actually contributed quite a bit unlike those who chose to focus on his communication style.

Indeed. That is a "tiled" player @idilis

I don't know if I could hold a conversation with this person. I think I'd be too distracted constantly with trying to visualize forks and skewers and calculate everything else grin.png

You are too kind but I'm a half wit at best

Not a problem but he doesn't look like he's looking for conversation or a game but looks can be deceiving. Just look at my face.

That still puts you waaaay ahead of most of the chicken-heads in these forums.

Also, titled players tend to be bookish and inside their heads all the time

In other words your knowledge of chess comes from 50 year old movies / stereotypes.

Exactly my thought.

"Titled players are shy/anxious and nerdy and don't have the wit to get involved in the forums". Like, wut? There goes somebody completely disengaged from not only famous chess personalities in history but even present day personalities. Note to self, Peggy is apparently much wittier and more social than the top 10 list of titled chess streamers.

First of all... most people who are titled players got it after only a few years... because they started as kids... meaning a few things

1) Most of them aren't studying / improving anymore.

2) Most who are studying are kids i.e. goofy and energetic.

If you mean some aspiring professional player who is 2600 FIDE and 16 years old, sure, maybe they have very little social life, but that's gotta be something like 20 people in the whole world out of millions of players.

What a weird assumption, considering you don't have experience being one of those players.

Nah, and you're a good example of what I'm saying.

Am I? Another assumption. You don't even know my age, or what my life entails.

Your profile gives stuff away even if you don't think it does...

Also your ratings are low for an NM, so if you're a rusty adult that also fits what I'm saying...

Avatar of Unicorn_Horn12

I doubt an adult joins a minecraft club... like bruh

Avatar of Unicorn_Horn12

Also what do you mean assumptions, as if I don't see NMs IRL and at OTB tournaments...

You don't know what they do in their free time though. Also you are generalizing the whole of titled players.

But do I study?

My point was NMs aren't shy nerds who study 10 hours a day and don't know how to socialize... that's what peg was saying and I disagreed. You seem to be young and I'm guessing you don't mind joking around... if I'm wrong and you're a socially awkward nerd then just say so tongue.png
