Why chess.com do not ban players insulting other players?!?

It is really annoying. I already switched off the chat. Then you read the message and you got insulted but some player. You report it and nothing happens.

Do you know how to block players? Once you do that they shouldn't be able to contact you.

ScacchiONonScacchi

I blocked one a few days ago and yesterday another one insulted me (blocked also this one). I think it should be chess.com to act against these people and it is so easy for them to delete an account that I really do not understand why they do not do that. Anyway, maybe the question should be "why am I paying money to stay in a place in which someone can insult me without reason and without any consequence?".

The site will mute members that are abusive in chat/notes, but will generally warn first. If the problem persists or is particularly bad, the will ban. However, they have to verify the behavior and see if the reported member is normally like that, and that can take some time; they don't ban for minor offenses or off one report.

I don't know who has insulted you or what they said but chess.com can't control what its members say. But I can imagine what they say and apologize on their behalf.

Chess.com does mute and ban some people who get reported. So it is worth continuing to report.

You can report the person if chess.com thinks they did something offensive, they will mute them or close their account depending on the seriousness of the issue.

Guardian21

some guy (name [removed -- MS]) called me an idiot n-word and threatened to kill my parents. If he hasn't been banned in a few days i'm deleting your app from my phone and will never play on this site again. Don't suggest i just block him, he has to be removed, end of story. Simply muting is not acceptable either.

SamvedVijayawada3

If someone insults you chess.com does not close his account and like Guardian21 said if somebody says something very disturbing then chess.com need to enter the field and do something like ban him from using the chat forever.

why not 3 strikes your out for any sort of insult? People would learn pretty quick and it would make the site so much better for users.

Guys, ask any AI form except Google, and they will tell you that Chess.com is training you—and it is true! I am friends with an employee. Sometimes, in real-life tournaments, you are allowed to speak and trash talk, often to distract you from the game. So pls stop reporting them. I'm not forcing u, but report them only if they are using really bad words.

Even if they are trash talking you it is completely unacceptable

It's all relative and in some cases, the person filing the complaint is right, and in other cases, they need to grow a pair!

If a person threatens your parents and makes racial slurs and says you're a disgrace to God, then yes, they need to be muted.

If you are being told that you suck and weasel out like a little girl because you won't accept a rematch, said person needs to be warned. Nobody is under any obligation to play you a second time and should not be insulted for declining.

If you are whining because someone said "good game" when you played a horrible game, or simple stuff like "You just got dominated!", Or something like "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" when you started your turn with 2 minutes left and now you have 30 seconds and have stalled ever since in a position that is mate in 1 or 2, I have 3 words for you. GROW A PAIR!

That's not accurate. If you do that in an official tournament game you'll get warned and if you continue, you'll lose the game

Account closures are usually a last resort. A permanent mute is more likely with the exception of cases of more extreme abuse and those normally don't get any warnings or escalations.

When I deal with this behaviour I just keep on playing the game happy.png Usually they're just a tilted player who is angry and taking out their frustration. Don't let them bother you! (Of course you should report it so that they get muted before they target players who are more sensitive to that behaviour). I once played a member who said to me ky s and offered me a rematch, I beat him 7.5 - 1.5 in a blitz match and he stopped accepting rematches. These people try to retaliate in the chat because they can't show their skill on the board. I'd say the guy underperformed by about 400 elo.

Agree but there is no real danger assuming no personal information was exchanged and these are anonymous accounts on an online site. So the amount of outrage should be tempered.

I agree with AdhvaithAjay. Ignoring the chat works for me, but for others it won't-especially with insane threats. Personally I think there should be a report system.
