Found out that it should honor your settings. One suggestion would be to change your default outgoing settings in your Live settings and see if that helps.

I don’t know the parameters of the algorithm but I strongly suspect it’s because you’ve never played a rated game. It probably just considers the 1200 as unofficial and will pair you with anyone.

i don't understand how you can mind this tho...
it can be much worse:
matched with a player who had about 1800 lower rating cause why not i guess...

yeah and also veeeery fancy reverse colors of the pieces...

No doubt this is the answer. OP does not have a rating, as he has yet to started playing rated games. The 1200 rating shown on his profile is just a placeholder number. No one would consider OP a 1200, so there is no reason an algorithm should
Most of the time, I get paired up against people in the 1000-1100 range. Why?
