Why does every single move create a new Browser History entry? (Flooding my history)

Has anyone else here noticed that the site records every single move in a game or analysis board as a separate "page visit" in the browser history?
I was trying to figure out why I couldn't restore my closed tabs after a shutdown and I realized my history is completely flooded. A single game takes up like 60+ spots in my history log which is insane tbh...
I understand this might be so we can share specific move links or maybe avoid losing when we accidentally press the back button, but it seems kind of bloaty. Maybe there is a better way to design this.
Is there any setting to turn this off? It feels like this should be updating the URL in place rather than creating a completely new history entry for every move...
