Why friend requests?

I'm fairly new here but over the last six weeks or so I've received a number of friend requests from people I've not played and don't know. So apart from the obvious that I could probably use more friends 😀, what's in it for the friend requester? I think all of them were so far ahead of me that a game would be silly. just wondering...

If I'm going to be honest: A lot of them are just striving for followers because when you friend someone you automatically follow them, some of them just want to brag to their actual friends about all the chess.com friends they have, and some of them actually need friends.

I read the forum a bit almost daily and when i read the comment of someone i really share is values or his point of view i do not check their level most of the time and i just ask them to be on my friend list.

There are probably many reasons for the requests; however, I think many requests are sent simply to increase the number of friends the requester has, as suggested in post #2. As you noted, most of the requests I receive are from members I have not had any interactions with. I will view the profile of the sender to see if there is anything in common and how we may have met. I tend to ignore most requests when I cannot find any sort of connection, and I certainly ignore them when I see the requester has only recently joined and already has many, many friends. happy.png
