I think too avoid the potentially subtle innuendoes of gg, perhaps its nicer to write out 'good game' and add a smiley face.
I like to say good game after interesting games, indiscriminate of whether i lost or won

if a game looked competitive , i say gg, if i crushed i dont say anything, if i get crushed it depends. If i suspect no engine help, i will say well played.

What is it that makes some of you guys come here and taunt 1000 elo players? Are you mad you never got to a high FIDE rating? Do you have any other skills besides chess? Other than listening to KMFDM which I enjoy too, I mean.

I think is a matter of personality, I am too shy to do the initiative, but I always reply when someone writes to me.
i say gg when it was a good game, oftentimes i don't notice the chat window. i avoid saying gg when we're still playing and i think i'm going to win. my opponents do that sometimes. it's not very nice, and you can still blunder into a losing position.

there was one guy I played against who said gg you suck noob.... he blundered so hard that he couldn't come back from it
I do it all the time it is not hard it was a good math u learned what is the big deal?
