Dear friends,

I play 10 min games with a ELO score of around 1400-1500.

I wish to discuss why there are so many people on chess.com who simply refuse to resign a losing game. I think it's a lack of respect and a waste of time to not resign when you don't have a decent chance of winning anymore. Hoping for a couple of blunders, running out of time, or a blunderdraw. It annoys the out of me. I block everyone who does that, but they just keep on coming. I also notice some nationalities doing this a lot more than others. I wish there was a pool with opponents that like to play respectfully.

You can always blunder

yeah

If you can't lock in checkmate then they have every right to play on.

Hah. I'm one of those "douchebags" that would play you in a losing position because the probability of losing a game after hitting resign is 100%

exactly. if you resign the game, you lose voluntarily. if you keep playing, there's a chance to get a draw or even win.

yes

In this game, I was completely lost, but I didn't resign and then my opponent stalemated me. Never resign.

also yeah i didnt take the queen on move 16 i know

They are poor losers and babies. That behavior drove me to another chess server.

"Huh," he grunted.

I've been spending a lot of time -- hell, investing a lot of time -- in YouTube streamer lessons, i.e. GothamChess is one of them.
Each of these masters, IMs, GMs, without a miss, tell their students to Never resign. No one ever won a game by resigning. You learn end-game tactics, that you can not practice as adeptly in puzzles or practice games. You are training more than your knowledge of the game, you are training your knowledge of your own emotional states. Learning to distance yourself from the blight of the board.

I have personally turned around five games that appeared to be completely lost. It was all over but the bleeding. Yet I managed to mate my opponent.

Anyway, that's my opinion. And I'm a nube, so there is that.

So, since I pay for that advice... sry, I'm not resigning -- unless I feel like it of course.

They hope on opponent's blunder or disconnection or just refuse to accept loss

Only would a dysfunctional community like the chess community downvote this 41 times. This is a very logical post. It is in fact disrespectful to continue to play on when you're down 20 material. It says to your opponent "you're too stupid to checkmate me" or "I'm so mad I got whooped, I'll now waste 5 minutes of your time." An equal and opposite reaction would be to promote all your pawns to knights, be careful not to stalemate and give the crybaby what they want. It is no more childish than refusing to resign. Granted I am not talking about situations where you're down by a rook, where you are down significant material but do own a clock advantage, or you're up against a more advanced checkmate like a lone king vs a bishop and knight. If there is a legitimate chance of your stealing a win or lucking into a stalemate, you should play on.

Basically you are saying that your opponents' refusal to resign when you want them to is rude, disrespectful and childish; your solution is to prove you can be even more rude, disrespectful and childish than them. Those who don't approve of your attitude are "dysfunctional."

When on the rare occasions I am in a winning position I get really annoyed when people resign, I am still at a very early learning stage and need to practice endgames, I’m getting good at defending a losing position because I’m one of those disrespectful people who refuses to give up. When I get to grand master level I’m sure I will know if I have won or lost after the first move, until then… no surrender!

cus they can still win

Avatar of trimalo

Simply because you may blunder your win to a stalemate or loss, until checkmate, there is still a slight hope especially of Stalemate.

That's why

Check out my last 2 games, that tells you why never give up
