[Why] does Chess.com want camera access for?
I'm sorry but I don't believe you. Are you saying that there has been more positive feedback than negative feedback?
Also, what percentage of the people that have used the camera feature have been underage? They probably are not thinking about whether they want you to have their information. Does the app ask if users are above a certain age before accessing their camera?
The site does not do anything with any images taken, though the member can share the images.
For now. I would guess they probably will in the future when people get used to it being part of the app. They're probably going to have more activities or whatever where users have to grant access to their camera and at some point chess.com will start collecting this data.
Well, I think the possibility is real, since everything that is needed to do it is in place... So yes, that's an unpleasant perspective...
What i'm curious about is where was the positive feedback taken? I haven't seen any...
There has been positive feedback in tickets, on some forum posts, and on social channels
For those concerned with privacy, what's allowed is covered under the Privacy Policy

Pretty sure that's not something that's going to happen.
why would they not do that? The privacy policy says that chess.com uses users information to deliver targeted advertising. I didn't see anything in the privacy policy that says that chess.com wouldn't do this with data from the camera. Other apps do this and chess.com will be able to as well so why wouldn't they when they say that they're already doing with other user data?
just turn cam and alexia off
I think the issue is that chess.com might make this a regular part of the app and that people will allow access to their camera without reading the fine print and then chess.com will be able gather data when they aren't aware of it. Also they shouldn't be accessing the camera of underage users in the first place.
or features that will be only available with your cam turned on...
From that point, everything is possible...
