that said, i'll tell you what: remind me in 2 weeks and i'll take the person with the most referrals and give them a prize. not sure what it will be, but please don't go spamming elsewhere (or the favor will be returned here) and don't register fake accounts. trust me - the prize won't be THAT good ;)
I'm of the opinion you should give the top 3 referrers temporary membership. Make them like a gold member or something. But have the system only count new IP addresses. And in order for a "tally" to appear next to someone's refer count, the referred player should have to have a certain criteria. Like: either play 5 games or earn 10 member points.
Basically, find some way to guarentee the new member will become a genuine active member of this community. The result of referring these fine, new, active members should be free temporary membership. It wouldn't be something too costly on chess.com's side but it would still be enough to encourage the referral program.

Ha! I guess I missed that. Was EVERYTHING I wrote above existing functionality?? Sheesh. You guys are too good. Anyway, I'll be happy to send that reminder.
At least it's not a bad trophy idea.

First, let me start this off with a great big winky, so that everyone knows this expression of pure self-interested greed is largely tongue-in-cheek: ;-) (I'd use the graphical icon, but that feature doesn't seem to work in my Mac version of Firefox.)
I've made it a point to encourage defectors from other sites I've played on, and my referral numbers are rising quickly. It would be cool if there was a field for new members that would ask "How did you hear about us?" (that part may already exist -- I don't remember) and if the answer is "Another chess.com member" then it should be possible to specify that member by username. Once a given member's referred new memberships reaches a certain level, the recruiter should get a reward--maybe a "Chess.com Evangelist" trophy? Cash would also be good. ;-)
