But why would you underpromote, when you could just get up to three Queens (which btw, is my favorite taunt move against a lone king, get multiple Queens, THEN go for mate)?

If white promotes to Q it is stalemate.

Shinanegans!!!

you can promote the c pawn to queen right away without it being stalemate

you are of course correct.  However, the fastest forced mate is by underpromoting.
