Advanced Lessons - Queen vs Passed Pawn

Why is the lesson instructing queen to check the king while threatening the pawn??? Pawn is in front of the king I guess like a diagonally. Lesson instructed Q to check the king at the same time pressure pawn. The King moved, instead of pawn capturing the Q.

The pawn is moving away from the queen, not towards it
