Advice needed

This isn't an endgame situation but black is to play (me) and I would be interested in any advice out there for the best way to proceed?

You're new here so probably don't realize that asking for advice on an ongoing game is a big no-no.  If it's a game you're playing here, it's considered cheating.  If it's a casual game that's been adjourned, well it's still bad sportsmanship.  Doesn't mean you can't get folks to help you out with analysis, but do it after the game is finished.

Of course since you haven't played any games here, maybe I misunderstood and it's an entirely innocent question based on a position you pulled from a book or a database.  If that's the case, my bad.

This is me playing against HIARCS.  I can get best suggested moves using the colored squares but it doesn't give me the reasoning behind the suggestion.   I am just trying to learn the logic behind the moves as I have not tried to play anybody besides my wife and she no longer feels like playing.

Well, let's play here! I don't know what's Hiarcs but sounds like a machine to me.

I have been forcing myself to play black lately and I have found myself in pretty unsatisfactory positions when I use the KID.  You are right that I am a newbie and I was not aware that people would even try to cheat (call me naive too).

I'd say indian defenses are for experienced players.

White is ahead - an extra pawn and control of the center.  It's not obvious to me how either side should proceed - there doesn't seem to be any danger of a prompt mate or winning tactic from either side.  So look for positional improvements.  In Black's case, get that lonely knight from a6 into the game.   Nc7 (attacking d5, which should work after e6 and/or Nf6) is interesting, but I think you need to play b6 first.

Thanks for the feedback.   I realized that I was only playing white and figured I better pick a strong black defense and try to learn it, rather than trying to play several poorly...  I am not sure the KID is the right pick for me.  I have looked at the Dutch defense and have also purchased a book on the Scicilian, but have not started it yet.  I am believe I am pretty conservative so I was hoping to find a black defense that fit my personality before I invested the time trying to learn it.
