Is your description supposed to resemble the diagram?  They're not even close.  Hard to start analyzing when you don't know what the position is. Smile

RedCell

My aplogies...the diagram supercedes the very poor discription.

I've taken it out. How much trouble is white in?

Thoughts?

Looks drawish to me. I can't see how Black can force the pawn through, and White can afford to lose the exchange, due to the opposite coloured bishops.

White loses after 1. g4..Be4 2.Bd4..Nd3

2... Nd3? 3. Rxc2

That's what I'm thinking. I was wondering if white could actually be successful in this game.

If you had to play white, what would be your next move? Mine would be to protect the Bishop and then black's Night would place White in check.

Eventually, white would have to sacrifice his rook.

Thanks for responding by the way.

I wouldn't think so. The best white can do is draw, unfortunately!

I put this position in the chess engine

It is a draw

A computer. It evaluates all the continuations and spits out the best line.

So, how does black win? I have the impression it's Black's game to lose if White (the best white can do that is) is seeking to draw.

Well, with computers it doesn't really work like that. Both sides are playing to draw. Either side could win if the other makes a mistake.

Interesting. I'll delve into this further. Thanks-RC.

Thanks everyone on the forum...it appears that it's a stalement unless someone blunders...which is not likely.

Actually White could try 1.g4, which is somewhat interesting.
