You do say inaccurate rather than wrong.

I'll kick off with the two bishops post (#20).

I've inserted a game played against Rybka with the Nalimov tablebase. Both sides are accurate (Nalimov is accurate in these positions and it also gives mate in 15 for the initial position).

Note the comment after White's second move. Your "ideal" cage for the black king has a floorspace of 20 squares compared with 13 squares (two of which he can't use) in my variation. As a consequence, you will not be able to force mate on move 15 against Nalimov.

I meant to specify to close the cage grin.png

MARattigan

I'm just a clever 400.

BACK TO THE POSITION:

"NOTE: the king can only be checkmated in the same colour-corner as the bishop"

Not strictly correct

White to play

First diagram (#21) is reasonably efficient (better than many endgame books) but I'd quibble with a couple of moves.

Your final diagram is less accurate (#22).

The comment following move 3 was one of two cancelling inaccuracies in Philidor's text on this endgame and has been reproduced in texts and grandmaster play ever since. (Müller & Lamprecht get it right.)
