Hello everybody!

So now that I clickbaited you, can someone help me to figure this out? In this Chess.com endgame lesson they say that black WINS if rook C8.

Can someone tell me the winning technique here? Cause as far as I see it if white goes Rh7 and after something like:

1. ...kb6, 2. Rh6# Kb5 3.Rh7 Ka4 4. Ra7# and white Rook just keeps harassing the king and occupying b7 not allowing the pawn move ...?

1.Rh7 Ka4 2.Ra7+ Kb4 reaches a Lucena Position.

I have totally forgot about it! Had a good practice with the engine to let this sit in. Thank you and good luck in your game.

King always needs shelter. If he cannot find it you will draw. Either the pawn or the rook need to provide it. That is what the lucena positon will do. The rook shelters the king.

@s0llem as per my opinion Rc8 blocks the King to attack the pawn as the 'c' file is blocked. And now the pawn can advance with proper idea - maybe along with the aid of the black King. The White Rook can be drawn lower to the Blank King after few moves, preferably to .b' file or to 'a' file but that can also be handled nicely by the black Rook. These all come from my brain. Maybe engine says something different.
