Distress call to save my Endgames

It's becoming too  painful for me, most times I come up with amazing positions to my favor from openings to middlegame approaching endgame then comes the blunder...

I need some candid advice fam✌️

Danke , vielen Dank .

Well, what sort of blunder comes,

A tactical blunder?

A positional blunder that leads to a bad endgame?

Endgame technique blunder?

Theoretical endgame blunder?

Also, when does the blunder come,

Under time pressure ?

In a complex position when there are a lot of candidate moves and ghosts start appearing?

During liquidations?

Look at your games to identify what you do wrong and under what conditions you make mistakes. After that you can start looking for the remedy.

I have the same problem with you.

I feel like I always look for ways to throw equal endgames away.

That said, try to have understanding of some basic endgame. Like in rook endgame, sometimes is better to have your rook behind opponent's pass pawn, Just try to have this basic endgame knowledge and always double check your move before you make them.

Seeing as that you are 1700, one would hope that you know all your basic endings.  If not, and you have not studied a thorough endgame book, like Silman's Complete Endgame Manual or Fundamental Chess Endings, you need to do so now.

If you have all of that down, then you need to work on more advanced endgame manuals, like those that cover Rook and many pawns (5 or more), multiple piece minor piece endings, etc.

And for clarity, at 1700, if you don't know these, you need to get working on them immediately!  Some come up FREQUENTLY (like all the R+P vs R instances), and some of them knowing the mating pattern also works on calculation, pattern recognition, and how to maneuver and coordinate certain pieces.

You should already know the following like the back of your hand at 1700 and ought to be able to immediately identify when a position is won versus drawn:

K+P vs K

K+Q vs K

K+R vs K

K+BB vs K

K+BN vs K

K+R+P vs K+R - Lucena's Position

K+R+P vs K+R - Philidor's Draw

K+R+(Rook or Knight)P vs K+R - The Passive Defense

K+R+(Bishop)P vs K+R - The Short Side Defense

K+R+(Central)P vs K+R - The Long Side Defense

K+R+(a and c OR f and h)P vs K+R

K+Wrong_Color_Bishop+(Rook)P vs K

K+Right_Color_Bishop+(Rook)P vs K

K+2P vs K+1P where one set is locked and the extra pawn is on the other side, like K+a4Pawn+g4Pawn vs K+a5Pawn - The rule for when that's a draw versus a win for the player with the extra pawn (Bahr's Rule) - The example would be a draw, if the pawn were on g3, it would be a win.

If you have mastered all of those, you can try Complex Chess Endings by Naroditsky or Tactical Chess Endings by I cannot recall who, but it's published by Quality Chess and has an orange cover.

What do I need to know that many endgames? I just know the first 3 and it hasn’t impacted me that much.

"What do I need to know that many endgames?"
++ That is not many, that is just a few. There are books titled "100 endgames you must know".
A competitive player knows like 1000 endgames and Carlsen maybe 10,000 or more.

"I just know the first 3 and it hasn’t impacted me that much."
++ Yes, below 2000 most games are decided by tactics, and in short time controls even more.
However, endgame knowledge is not something you learn in a few weeks after you reach 2000.
It takes time to learn, so the earlier you start, the better in the long run.
Moreover, all chess strategy ultimately depends on endgames,
so endgame knowledge helps you play better in the middle game and even in the opening.

I do the same thing, I’m only rated around 500, my advice is back him in a corner and make sure he has at least one good move
