heres a puzzle:

The solution given- checkmate in 6 moves is -  incorrect.

It is incorrect because the author of the puzzle gave in his solution 4....Qc6 which is a suicidal move resulting in a wrong solution of checkmate in 6 moves.

The correct move for  Black to avoid a checkmate in 6 moves but in 7 moves are (1) 4....Qf4 or (2) 4....Qd4+ or (3) 4....Qh4+.

this doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't white queen just take the black queen on the first move?

The actual initial position of the study is that one. White to play and win.

The first moves are straightforward: 1.b6+ (1.ba6? b5) 1...Kb8! 2.h4 a5 3.h5 a4 4.h6 a3 5.h7 a2 6.h8=Q (promotion to bishop is not good because white can't pull the black king off the corner) 6...a1=Q and so on.

Dude,Its still checkmate,so be it.
