Don't go for the weak pawn, attack the head of the snake instead?

Interesting endgame. I should have lost the game, I didn't play it accurately at the end. I thought I should go for the weak pawn on b7 first and that the rest would fall. Stockfish is showing to go for the e pawn instead.

It's a common idea aimed at increasing the scope of your king (if they capture) and moving their weak pawn closer to your king (if you capture on d5 then d5 becomes weak)... and in this particular case you're also moving your weakness farther away from the black king (c pawn moves up the board.

But I'm guessing you knew this and this is (once again) a troll post.

Why do you think it is a troll post? I didn't intentionally go for the b7 pawn knowing what you explained above. I thought the pawn chain was not weak in the front and that I could get the pawns one by one with the knight.

Also, I am not sure what you mean by "moving their weak pawn closer to your king". The e pawn stayed on e4 in the Stockfish lines I saw. It was just a matter of when to take and if c4 should be taken first, as well as choosing the king or knight to capture.

There's a recurring troll with your MO... and your account is only 7 days old.

Plus the meme name and pfp.

It's pretty easy to put 2 and 2 together, so to speak.

I can understand there is the potential of troll posting, but what in the OP actually has evidence of trolling? Normally, I would expect going after a weak pawn in the back of a chain of pawns. Here it is the opposite. If I wanted to troll I would have asserted the opposite knowing it was common.

I don't see attacking the head of a chain of pawns as common. I have seen only talk of going after the weak pawn in back.

Here are examples of what I would expect to be the course of action with weak pawns, https://www.angelfire.com/journal2/chess/pawnchains.html

They are contrary to what I experienced in my game.

What about 49. Nxc6 bxc6 50. c4?

That works, you eliminated one pawn and the black king is too far away to protect them
