Endgame Plays for Me
Study basic endgame positions: Endgames are often won or lost based on simple principles and tactics, such as king and pawn endgames, rook and pawn endgames, and basic checkmating patterns. Study these positions thoroughly so you have a solid foundation to build on.
Practice endgame puzzles: Solving endgame puzzles is a great way to improve your understanding of the endgame. Websites like Chess.com, Chess Tempo, and Chessable offer a variety of endgame puzzles that you can practice.
Learn the concept of opposition: In king and pawn endgames, the concept of opposition can be crucial. The player who has the opposition can often force the opponent's king to move, allowing their own king to advance and promote a pawn.
Pay attention to the pawn structure: Pawn structure can be a determining factor in the endgame. Connected passed pawns, isolated pawns, and pawn majorities can all be significant advantages or disadvantages.
Make use of zugzwang: In many endgame positions, the player who is forced to move next will be at a disadvantage. Look for opportunities to put your opponent in a position where any move they make will be to their disadvantage.
Avoid time trouble: Late game blunders are often a result of time trouble. Make sure to manage your time well throughout the game so you have enough time to carefully consider your moves in the endgame.
I find that more often than not I can dominate nearly anyone early game (up 10 or more material), but somehow lose due to dumb late game blunders. Anyone got good engame plays for me to try or ideas to help me get good?
