Only 5 men, key move is a bad move then a winning move, exactly a hundred years ago! happy.png

Why would this key move be bad? A chess player would more likely start with the last move of the solution because he is taught to be careful when advancing pawns. They need proper support.

Basically artistic chess consists of doing the things you shouldn't do in game chesswink.png

Sorry I meant O-O-O for the key move (I don't use the word key for the first move of a study), we have a try with O-O-O in this study which is very good, castling is so unnatural in an endgame. If you can win a game with a study move don't hesitate! happy.png

Ah, yes, misunderstanding. I also do problems where good key moves are essential but they don't mean a lot in studies. I always looked for great study moves and artistic combinations as a chess player but it didn't happen a lot. Probably should have been a more active chess player but why waste your time playing chess to find a rare jewel while they are abundant in other places? Thank you for posting all those great endgame studies on chess.com!

When the collection is complete I hope I can find someone at Chess.com to place it in a section Endgame study collection with a link from the puzzle menu.

hi Dinnerbone, did you solve the study? I always think that one can appreciate (more) a study solution when he tried to solve it, I mean for those studies that are made to be solved.

The good point of this study is when you found the trick not all is done.

That would be great! The Forums are a dangerous place to store your goodies since there are many mishaps here. Diagrams get lost, posts are truncated every time chess.com decides to reorganize its database or clean up. You'd want better protection for a permanent archive.

Thank you for this advice!! I will save the PGNs today.

Hi Nilsusen, When I see those flags from so many countries I like Chess.com a lot.

Nice Study, but shouldn't you say in your post to promote to queen when given the option?

Avatar of Arisktotle

That's actually a shortcoming of chess.com. When you take lessons it will tell you to pick a different move when you don't play the one it wants you to play (but still a good one). Chess.com ought to give us the same option when posting or solving a puzzle since solutions are ambiguous at times. Then you wouldn't have to reject the rook-promotion as wrong but simply ask the solver to replace it with an alternative. It's one of a thousand desirable improvements in the chess.com puzzle interface.
