Endgames, where do I even start?

Does anyone have a full step-by-step guide for endgame techniques that everyone has to know?

All I know right now is the basics of opposition concept, how to draw some king and pawn vs king endgames and how to draw philidor position(I discovered this one today and decided to ask if there is more concepts like this). Can anyone help me please?

I'd start with the basic checkmates like K + Q vs K or K + R vs K.

Then I'd move onto learning basic checkmate patterns by name (Backrank mate, Arabian Mate, Dovetail Mate etc.)

Next, I'd then go to basic theoretical endgames.

Which basic checkmates, basic checkmate patterns and basic theoretical endgames do you already know? You probably know a few more than what you literally just named.

I thought K+Q vs K and K+R vs K is basic knowledge. I didn't mention anything other because I don't know their names. Everything I know about endgames came as a natural improvement as I progressed. I studied openings, tactics, but never endgames.

Like I know that you want to isolate their king on the last rank from experience, that you can make waiting moves forcing a zugzwang, etc.

Study Chess Fundamentals Capablanca. He treats all you must know.

If you know some basic theoretical endgames (like K+R vs K checkmate) already, then probably the next step is to expose yourself to several named checkmate patterns. These are especially useful for the middlegame attacks because it will give you potential patterns to aim for.

Here is a video I made a month ago, which sounds like it could help:

Silman's Complete Endgame Course is probably the book you want. It organizes the endgames by the player level at which a player is ready to understand them, with each chapter building off the lessons of the previous chapter and end-of-chapter tests.

This is in contrast to other endgame books which will try to exhaustively cover each type of endgame before moving on to the next type.

Now that you know the Philidor position the next thing to learn is the Lucena position.

A good book for all of this stuff is Silman's Complete Endgame Course.

But to be honest, once you have learned the Lucena position you probably know everything you need for your level.

If you prefer videos over books a good option is Stjepan Tomic's endgame series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoZPZdnYYk8&list=PLssNbVBYrGcAcadywNlkAGpO1-kLfy0y2

Hi!

If you know already the basic checkmates vs. lone King then you shoud start with Pawn + King endgames.

Good luck!
