How to master the rook mate

This is one of the most common endgames in chess.  

To conquer the rook mate, you need to remember a few things:

  1. Unlike the queen, the rook cannot force the enemy king to the side of the board by itself.,
  2. You'll need to use your king and your rook to force the enemy king to go to the side of the board and eventually, you'll be able to checkmate.,
  3. You need to make a wall with your rook.,
  4. If you can make the wall smaller with your rook, do so.,
  5. If you can't make the wall smaller with only your rook, bring your king over.,
  6. Avoid repeating the same position three times.,
  7. Don't leave your rook on a such square where the enemy king can capture it.,
  8. Don't stalemate your opponent's king.,
  9. Checkmate within the next 50 moves.,
Bring your king closer to your rook.
Move your king to a square that isn't being guarded by the black king.
Restrict the black king's move and make the wall even smaller.
Keep your king on the sixth rank and checkmate the black king when it's on the 'h8' square
White can checkmate the black king in three moves.  But how?

If it were black's turn, this position would be stalemate since the black king has no legal moves.  But, it's white to move and checkmate black in three moves.  There are lots of different moves that white can make with his rook so that he'll be able to checkmate black two moves after.  Be sure to remember to not allow black to capture your rook because that'll be a draw.

You must move your rook immediately or else the game will end in a draw by insufficient material.  That would not be good for you (white) since you're winning.
