How to maximize the chance of stalemate?

When i've lost all my pieces in the endgame, I don't really know how to find/develop a stalemate position. Are there any tricks to maximize the chances, like going in the corner or something? Any comments would be greatly appreciated :-)

Give up everything else except queen or rook and try to stalemate

You are 1200 rapid. If they have a decent understanding of endgame principles, your opponents won’t fall for it.

It is not totally impossible against stronger players.

I played against a master about 2 years ago. The position below is by no means exact, but it is close and gives the general idea of what happened. While the position may not be exact, below is similar to what happened. The material is right, jut not totally sure of the exact position of things like the Black Rook and White King. I was Black.

Again, this may not be 100% exact as I don't recall the exact move sequence, and unclear if f6 was played before the game ended or not, but the theme is right, and the final moves are definitely right as the Kh4 Rh3+ idea and perpetual/stalemate if king went to the 2nd rank is 100% definitely in terms of what happened.  Only thing that might be wrong in the final position is whether the f-pawn was on f5 or f6.  Also, the rook may have started on c1 or c2 instead of c3, unsure.

But yes, stalemates occur with masters. You just have to be more crafty than to rely on stupidity, like expecting KQQ vs K to result in Qd6 and Qf6 with Black King on e8 to move. Those just don't happen. Rook endings are where you look for stalemates.

It should also be noted that White was in really bad time trouble and Black was in moderate time trouble when this whole sequence occurred. I think White had under a minute and Black had under 5 minutes.

Just hope you are playing with someone who isn't good at endgame or else...

If your opponent isn't dumb, and has enough time, there is no chance to stalemate

Even grandmasters fall into stalemate traps occasionally, even in slow games.

DON'T RESIGN . . .

mysterio1006

if your opponent has a queen or rook it would be difficult to stalemate but if your opponent has any other piece like pawn or knight try to stay in the place where the pawn will promote

idk abt others but i usually draw like this

You are right, I probably should have worded that better. I mean giving away all your pieces or backing into a corner, like people are suggesting won’t work.
You have to actually force stalemate via a tactic, not just hope they accidentally stalemate you.
Like you said, “You just have to be more crafty than to rely on stupidity”
