you must also use your king to win, but avoid getting it trapped on the side of the board in certain positions or constricting the enemy king too much, which can lead to stalemate traps... just look up 'derek grimmell' on youtube & give a thumbs up when it helps out. 👍
I am also struggling with king queen vs king rook mate. Everyone says you need to force the defender towards the philidor position, but how do you do that?

I think you needa move your queen to a more centralized square and get your wueen behind the defender’s king
I just managed checkmate with a p+k vs. k don't know how i did it.. but it happened

You have to actually have a winning position, there are some instances where the rook side can fortress.
the king must hide in the only safe square witch is c1 in then white is winning
