depends on the file the pawn is on...if an opponent knows what he's doing the rook pawns are almost impossible to promote...the key with anything is moving your king in front of your pawn and using it to oppose the king...basically chasing the king away from your pawn's queening square...the whole process is complicated...if you're having trouble with this endgame you need to learn more about "opposition" and other key principles which are explained in many books and articles on the web...
King & pawn vs. lone king
Could you give an example? Somebody should make a sticky thread for how to win K+P v K endings; everybody deserves to know how to handle those endings inside and out.
If you get a membership IM Rensch did a great documentary on rook pawn endgames and some of the tricks he showed work on king pawn also. The Mentor also goes over this quite thoroughly
its a very complicated situation...wikipedia has a good article on it and i'm sure there are other articles online about it to learn the basics....the most important thing to learn about is opposition which is one of the first things they cover in any endgame book or series of articles
Dan Heisman on the icc has a two part video about this. Wheter it is a draw or not depends on where the kings are in relation to the pawn and who has opposition
Is it possible for the pawn to be promoted. I can only get a stalemate.
Please let me know using the usual notation.
