List of draws?

Does anyone have a list of draws?  An example would be king and queen against king and queen.  Thank you in advance.

There might be a list somewhere but it would be pretty large. While most K+Q vs K+Q may be draws, not all positions fall into the draw category. And there are a lot of positions that are draws with best play but some with the same material, but a different configuration, is a win/loss with best play.

If you have a position with 7 or fewer pieces, including the kings, endgame tablebases can get you the answers (not usable for ongoing games here though).

A draw every player should have been taught is king versus king+bishop+wrong rook pawn.

Probably the most important draw to learn is the Philidor drawing method in king+rook versus king+rook+pawn.

Other useful draws are the Cochrane defense in the ending king+rook versus king+rook+bishop and the Vančura defense in the ending king+rook versus king+rook+rook pawn.

What do you mean by "wrong rook pawn,, n95311?

I've been working with "chess mentor" and there have been a number of situations which would be better to force a draw than to resign.  What I'm looking for is how to know to try to force a draw and how to know to resign.

If your opponent has a king and a bishop and a rook pawn, and you only have a king, you can draw if the queening square of the pawn is not controlled by the bishop and you can get your king to the queening square.

Got it! :)

watershoot, if you want to show the Philidor defense, put the black king at e8. In your position, 1...Rh6 loses (but Black can draw with Rh1).
