It is for checkmate material you're looking, try for king + two rooks against a lone king for a easy start. And gradually you will go for king + queen against a lone king, then king + rook against the king. The latter will be a little bit tricky, but doable for a beginning course. It's my suggestion.
Need beginner position

Sorry, It seems I misread your post...

Here it show the basic patterns for checkmate.
Thanks a lot yall, I ended up using tonydal's position, because I've already gone over the beginner checkmates (K+R, K+R+R, K+Q+R, K+Q), and I think the K+P vs. K is a fairly simple Endgame pattern to learn.
Heh... the secret's out!
I volunteer as the beginner coach for a nearby club. They only have two coaches, and three levels of skill for the kids; beginner, intermediate, and advanced. They needed some help, and I was in their advanced class last year (it wasn't advanced enough for me to go through again), so I asked them if I could help, and here I am. Besides, I'm working on my ability to teach. Because the club I teach at is half an hour away, I'm looking to start a club closer to my home. I'm already teaching a co-coach that can help me.
Tonydal, oddly enough, at least half of the kids moved the King up first. I have high hopes for these kids... high hopes indeed.
Indeed they are. The best thing is, they acctually want to be there! That makes it so much easier for me, and it raises their improvement levels quite a lot.
Hello everyone!
So, here is my problem- I have a class tomorrow, and it's on endgames.
My fellow teacher and I are looking for an easy to understand, basic Endgame to show the kids what a normal Endgame looks like. It would preferrably go to checkmate. Please help me by leaving an example as soon as possible!
