Announcing Check is not compulsory its just being polite. Like tkbunny says you have to go back to the last legal position
What happens when there is an unannounced check?

So me and my Dad are playing chess. He puts me in check, and doesn't see it, and thus, doesn't announce it. I go on to checkmate him in 2 moves, but then announce the position after studying the board for a minute. Is the game rewound to the old position, or is it my win? Should we just call it a draw? Where could I find some official rules for unannounced check?
