1) d4 or 1) e4

I find it a little more versatile, (particularly after I screw up lol), the theory behind most of it is easier to follow for me as a rookie. Most importantly, as a rookie playing rookies, I see a CONSISTENT 15-25 second thinking delay from my opponents after I play 2-bf4. Probably surprised to NOT see a knight pop out as usual lol.
Since this change, my last 25 games as white, Ive won 21 of them and had a moderate jump in rapid rating, (cracked 600 the other day and am still slowly rising)
Rookies out there… look up the london and bare down with just 2-3 variations in an afternoon. Itll help!

Both have boat loads of theory, traps, gambits and their share of attack so I don’t buy into which one is “best” therefore I play neither.
If your equalizing out of the opening and achieving a playable or enjoyably middle game; what more do you want?

I'm a bit lower than you are and this seems like good advice.
In this rating range, they keep is to just not blunder, and not waste time in the opening (which you point out), and any sound opening game is going to lead to a middle game where it's basically about not missing opportunities or overlooking threats. I just one a game where on review I missed a mate-in-one, and lost the game prior where I forgot about en passant and lost a pawn.

Obviously no move is objectively better for the other, but for an attacking player, e4 is best. Simply because it leads to more open positions, which offer more attacking opportunities.

Hi, thanks to everyone for your responses. This forum is now closed, please do not add any more comments.

As the OP you can select "Lock Comments"
How do I do that, please?
at the upper right corner of the page
Sorry, I still don't see where.

you may have to first go into the edit mode where "Lock Comments" option is available
"Lock Comments" selection is available for articles. I'm not certain if it is available for forum threads.
I don't think I can lock the comments. I went to edit mode but couldn't see "lock Comments."

Thanks for trying. Don't worry about your comments. A forum column on chess.com about this subject says you can lock comments.
But as a Dyslexia, I am having trouble finding it. If you can work it out, will you get back to me? Anyway, here is the link: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/how-to-lock-a-forum-topic

That refers to the ability of the moderators to Lock forum topics. It appears that subscribers cannot do it for their forum threads. However, as I mentioned, if you create an article, say a blog article, then the author can lock comments for that.
OK, thanks for that. Can I add you as a friend, please?
