Hey TGBM95 - Check in after a few weeks of playing around the 1000 rating and we'll see where YOU are. Probably significantly lower. You should think before you post.
1000! Woo!

Congrats! That's a huge achievement.
I find that chess becomes a lot more fun once you hit 1000+ rating. Because you can actually start to have pretty decent games, where many strategical and tactical ideas clash.
It's not just a matter of who hangs their queen or misses a back rank checkmate. You actually get the chance to slowly outplay your opponent at this level. And you can think about deeper concepts like pawn structure, space advantage, active pieces, etc.
So hopefully you stick around and keep climbing!

I think you may have misinterpreted TGBM95's post. I really think they said that in all innocence; having just joined the site. Now it appears they have closed their account. I think with the trolling that goes on here its easy to assume the worst about people.

Hi Signal25. You may be right. I just feel like someone always has to jump on the guy who is sharing their accomplishments on this site with something negative. When I finally broke 1000 I posted it and someone told me how slow my progress was and that I should reconsider my commitment to the game. It kinda sucked the wind out of my sails. I admit my post was a bit hasty.......

Congratulations, Aphistis, on reaching your goal! I'm an old-timer too, but not a late-starting one.
You provide great advice. For me, daily games are better, but single-session games with long time controls are also a useful way to progress. I need time to think, time to analyze when I'm in the mood to analyze.

Yeah I think this advice is great. It's exactly the kind of advice I'd give to someone who is just starting out.

Can't have been good for you to hear that. There are some proper muppets around. Have a good day
I remember through my whole elementary school career I never broke 1000 anywhere... it took me a 2 year break to get past 1000! Congrats, OP!
Wait you got to 2000 without being past 1000 in elementary school. This gives me inspiration to keep getting better.
I am no longer in elementary school. After 6th grade I became depressed and quit chess for 2 years.
Im in elementary school and im 2100 OTB

there are very very few people in canadian chess (im canadian) who i can think of that are 2100+ CFC and who is 10 and under. actually, i can't even think of anyone off the top of my head.
cant check tho, since the CFC website got take down because of some virus.

Congratulations! It's not so easy for us old-timers starting out. Like you, I've found Blitz doesn't suit my adult neurons as well as slower play.
I use the notes section on daily games to keep a track of my tactics. only you can see them so they don't need to read perfectly as long as they make sense to you.
Good luck on the quest for 1200
