I got 3k rating in 1 year

It's a good feat to acheive, congrats! Tactical skill will help your game one way or another.

I am addicted to puzzles myself.

My peak puzzle elo is around 2500 but my rapid rating is only around 1300 haha.

So you know when I win, there's at least one brilliant move lol. If it comes down to endgame, I might as well resign TT.

Maybe, it's time for me to play more games and quit doing puzzles. The downside is you'll waste time finding a tactic when there's none and sometimes you'll even sac a piece for nothing coz of missed calculation.

Good job!! I am currently 3200 puzzles and almost 2000 rapid, so you should easily become 1000-1100.. maybe try focusing on learning endgames and openings, that should help you!

noice im 2500 puzzles

UPDATE: Currently 2706 in puzzles. Tactics have gotten better, my rapid is up to 1425 currently. There's been improvement. Currently stagnated in the 1400 range though, so we'll see how that shakes out.

I hope everyone is enjoying their chess journey. happy.png

I think it's not enough to solve the puzzle it's also how QUICKLY u solve them

When u solve a puzzle but can't see this fast probably you'll miss it in real game

I don't know, maybe for bullet games. But I think taking the time to train one's brain to recognize patterns and to improve attention to detail is more important.

I’m stuck at 1000, GJ on hitting that

does anyone ever get the feeling that certain moves made in the puzzles would never be played in a real game? Like, you would have never calculated a certain sequence and it just makes no sense? Anyway, good vibes to everybody. 👊👊👊

It's because the engine will play the objectively correct move every time, and sometimes the objectively best move is to give up the queen and keep playing.

BuzzleGuzzle

Not necessarily. It's not uncommon for opponents in puzzles to play inaccurately in order to highlight the idea of the puzzle.

I am at 2300 too but it seems like a dead end

Puzzles are infuriating. Right? +5. Right again? Well done +5.

Wrong? Ha -15.

You need to get 4/5 right to make any progress. I have been 2600 but can't sustain it.

That's because the puzzles are based on someone of "that" "real life" rating solving them within X number of seconds. Due to computers being smarter than us at knowing what our ratings are (yeah, right). Take longer than that then the number of points drops.

The good thing is you can take 30 minutes on a problem until you 100% are certain of the solution and still get +5. At least be lucky you get +5. Back in the old days, you would LOSE points for taking too long on a problem! Imagine having a NEGATIVE RATING on tactics or a zero tactics rating because you took too long, then going to a real life tournament and doing well vs Masters and FM's....

I said it before and I'll say it again--if you really want to get good at tactics, buy (or "acquire") a good tactics book written by a strong player and avoid computer generated algorithm problems (with only ONE solution, with any 2nd best lines either losing or being 0.00 (EVERY TIME)). In real life, sometimes you can enter into a tactical sequence that leaves you up a rook but having to defend a massive amount of counterplay (even if it works in the end if you make perfect moves), or returning some of the material to simplify and get a no counterplay advantage of 2 pieces + extra pawn vs Rook endgame (multiple pawns left on the board), with an extra pair of rooks to help your minors (1R+2P + p vs the other player having 2R).

How is it possible these 900s are this high in puzzles? I can't comprehend. If you can calculate so much then you should be winning all your games

Yep, I'm around 1000 rapid, 700 blitz and my puzzles is 1700. Don't think that is record breaking but HOW IN THE WORLD DO 900'S AROUND MY LEVEL DO THOSE PUZZLES???

Well one thing, some moves ARE pretty stupid in general.

Well look at my Stats, i think its common for elos below 1000 to have 1700+ elo in puzzles. ive played 1000 puzzles so far but rarely any actual chess games, i only play puzzle.

I find puzzles are a great warm up for the day. I only get to do 5 a day though so its tough getting a much higher rating. 1745 at present which has taken me ages!
