A question from a beginner

Hello,

I am a beginner, and I have a question.

I want to know if there is a way to input a specific position and find all games where a particular side held that position, irregardless of how the opposite side defensed.

I have found many ways to review specific positions as long as I can outline both sides pieces, but I am looking for a way to see several different defenses to the same position.

Are there any options for this kind of inquiry to be researched? Thank you.

There are really an infinite number of possible positions.  Databases of master games usually record relatively sensible moves, not the random moves of beginners. Even large databases only have millions of games. If you use a master game database, you can see the various ways masters have responded.

Chess.com has seen billions of games played. If they were put in an accessible database, you'd still find unknown positions.

I think that’s not a possibility in chess.com.

I have imported all my games and a huge set of master games in Scid vs Pc. I checked and there it is possible.

For example:
2422 mastergames with a white king on g2
322 mastergames with a white king on g2 AND pawns on h2, g3, f2

It takes a few hours to set up Scid vs Pc tho.

ChessTempo's database (it's free) of games allows you to search for games having a specific position.  Set up a position on the board and use the "Games for Position" button (circled).

I fail to see how that would be useful for anything. Maybe I have a limited imagination.

++ You can do that in ChessBase.
