"Analyze" option in Daily chess games

I recently saw that, during a daily game (not sure about rapid/bullet etc), you can select "analyze" and then play out various future scenarios. Is this a violation of fair play? Seems like it would be but then I am wondering why this feature would be available.

Daily is just the chess.com name for correspondence chess.  Quite different rules from live play, so no, not only is it not a violation of fair play, it is encouraged.

  • In Daily Chess (turn-based games with several days per move), you may consult any resource which is not engine-based. This includes books, opening databases (including the Chess.com Explorer) for [www.chess.com/openings|opening moves], and thematic games (though not their engine analyses).  Tablebases are NOT allowed. You may not consult an engine, or another human, to provide an opinion on the opening database, tablebases, self-preparation or analysis that would relate to a particular game-in-progress on Chess.com.

Thanks, appreciate the explanation.

What is a tablebase?

As an answer to the OP, if it is available from your playing board, then you may use it freely. From the playing board, you can analyse/play out the lines without the help of an engine and you can use the opening database to see what masters play in certain positions.

Of course, you don't have to use any of these, but part of the challenge of correspondence/daily chess is that you ARE allowed to use those two options.

Endgames have been solved by computers.  The results are called tablebases and their use is forbidden in Daily chess.  You should probably google the term for more info.
